The tow pin is an important component on your forklift if your machine ever breaks down and needs to be moved manually. But before operating your lift truck, are you making sure you have a tow pin in place?

The tow pin sits on the back of the lift truck, and the exact location and specification of the pin can be found in your lift truck’s operator manual. Before placing it, refer to your operator’s manual on the placement of the pin to ensure you are placing it in the correct spot. Correct placement of a tow pin is extremely important because operating a lift truck without one in place could result in serious injuries and even fatalities.

Even your forklift has a tow pin, it should never be used for towing other objects. Using a forklift to tow items can cause accidental tip over or loss of control, resulting in serious injury to operators or those around them. Never attempt to tow anything using your forklift.

Before you take off, remember to check your tow pin! Staying safe and prepared is as easy as adding in one extra step to your pre-trip routine.
